Schools for Energy Efficiency^® (SEE) is a comprehensive program to help K-12 schools save energy and money by changing behavior throughout the district.

SEE provides schools with the strategies, resources, and support necessary to implement an energy management program where you keep the savings. The program is meant to be flexible and can be customized to fit the needs of your school district.

WHY SCHOOLS BENEFIT FROM SAVING ENERGY...

• Reduces energy waste. Nearly 1/3 of energy consumed in schools is not used efficiently.
• Saves money. Annual energy costs on average are $250 per student and energy is a major source of avoidable spending.
• Shows responsibility to tax payers.  Efficient operations use taxpayer money wisely and redirect money towards educational needs.
• Preserves the environment. 80% of greenhouse gas emissions are from the production, distribution, and disposal of energy. Saving energy reduces pollution and the use of nonrenewable resources.
• Educates students.  Instilling wise energy habits in students creates lifelong conservationists and teaches them to care about the impact of their actions.
• Improves the learning environment. There is a positive correlation between the physical condition of the learning environment and student performance. Many energy efficient practices help create better lighting, temperature control, acoustics and air quality.

Nearly 600 schools have participated in Schools for Energy Efficiency with an average annual energy savings of 13% (yet many reach over 20%) and together the schools currently reporting results have saved more than $22 Million in utility costs in only five years.

Keys to Success

The SEE program was developed in 2002 by Hallberg Engineering, Inc. a mechanical and electrical engineering firm with more than 25 years experience serving Minnesota school districts.  SEE was created in response to client's needs for a flexible, self-implemented plan to help realize immediate savings in energy use as well as develop a long-term culture of energy efficiency. Today, SEE is a sister company operating as Energy Efficiency Programs, Inc., based in St. Paul, MN.
